Alpha Kappa Chi, the original sorority, was founded as a local sorority on March 17, 1978 at Lake Superior State University. In 1988 our alumni decided to explore the benefits of becoming a national sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon. In 1998, however, we decided to get back to our Alpha Kappa Chi roots, and once again became a local sorority unique to LSSU.
Alpha Kappa Chi is a social sorority, meaning we accept all women, no matter their major. We have alumni that have graduated with degrees ranging from Nursing, to Education, to Engineering, to Business.
In Greek, our letters (AKX) mean Love, Beauty, and Grace. We try to emulate these three qualities in everything we do.
Esse Quam Videri. To be rather than to seem to be.
Our sorority prides itself on the idea that all individuals are welcome, and everyone helps to complete our circle of sisterhood.
